Benissa Town Council has unanimously decided to request a meeting with the Development Minister, José Blanco, in an attempt to avoid work on the Benissa by-pass being included in the budget cuts announced recently. The Mayor said that he conveyed the concern of the town over the possibility that the unfinished work be suspended for three years with all the dangers and problems this entails for local residents.According to the Mayor a final decision on the budget cuts will not be made until September, so action is needed now to avoid Benissa and the local area being stuck with the state of the works until 2013. The counter that was installed in the Plaça del Rector Salvador Fuster to mark the number of days of inactivity at the site, currently stands at 50 days, counting from the demonstration held in the town to protest the lack of progress in the work. The aim of the meeting with José Blanco is to re-open bidding for contractors and a resumption of work next year. |
