Guardia Civil

An animal protection organisation in Benissa have reported a Lliber resident, who owns a farm in the municipality, for abandonment and neglect of their animals.  Many of the animals are at serious risk of dying from hunger and being eaten by parasites.

Members of the animal association visited the farm on several occasions and photographed the dogs, horses, sheep and a pig.  On each visit the conditions became more squalid and the animals more neglected.  This week they managed to rescue a German Shepherd who was anaemic and infested with fleas and ticks.  The four year old dog was dying from the massive infestation, leaving the veterinary clinic in Benissa no choice but to put the animal to sleep because of the amount suffering the animal was in and it was impossible to save him.

The animal shelter does not want the same thing to happen to the other animals.  Therefore, this week they called on the Guardia Civil in Benissa and then Jalon to denounce the Lliber resident for animal abuse.  The Guardia referred the case to Seprona, the environmental arm of the Guardia Civil.  A report was also made to the Mayor of Lliber, Juan Bautista Reus, who has not taken any action so far.

The animals on this farm were once very well looked after.  This changed when the present owner, who is a German resident, took over.  Since then the situation on the farm has got steadily worse.  The horses are malnourished and weak, and the dogs are infested with fleas and ticks.  Some puppies born recently are already full of parasites.
